uMgeni Park murder victim named

GREENWOOD Park police have released the name of the uMgeni Park resident who was found dead in her complex. Dr Banoo Mahomed’s body was discovered by a neighbour at the gated complex on Browns Drift Road. Her mouth had been covered with duct tape and her body was in a state of decomposition when she was discovered.

Mahomed worked at Prince Mshiyeni Hospital in uMlazi and lived on her own. According to Greenwood Park police station spokesman, Warrant Officer Leon Audh, she was last seen on Thursday last week.

“At this point we can confirm there was no forced entry. Her family has been notified and they and the community at large are in shock. Unfortunately, we cannot disclose any further details because it may compromise the case,” Audh said.

Mahomed’s neighbour, Jo Wilkinson, said she was saddened to hear of the death.

“She was a very private person.  I didn’t hear or see a thing but her cat was acting weird this past week. She was eating at my house and leopard crawling around my lounge for the past few days before her owner was discovered.  We didn’t know why the cat was acting so weird, but now it makes sense, it’s just so sad,” she said.
