Mom of two disappears in Durban North

POLICE are desperately searching for Siphiwe Thobela who went missing over three days ago, after locking a business premises in Broadway.

According to Thobela’s niece, Melody Bruijn, the mother-of-two was last seen by her employer in Broadway around 5pm on Saturday.

Bruijn said her aunt had been having transport problems of late and it is believed that she had caught a taxi from Durban North to Gateway Theatre of Shopping where she would have had to hitchhike to her home in Stanger (also known as KwaDukuza).

“This is very out of character, she has been a single mom of two boys for the last 12 years, she would not simply leave them. She is a very responsible person, and does not smoke, drink or party,” added Bruijn.

The family has contacted various hospitals in Stanger, Durban as well as Verulam, but there has been no trace of the 28-year-old.

“Our next port of call will be to start contacting mortuaries,” said Bruijn.

Capt Raymond Deokaran of the Durban SAPS confirmed that a missing person’s case had been opened at the station, but added that the investigating officer had received no leads in the case.

He said the station was investigating three other similar cases.
