WOMEN in the province have been warned of a scam targeting them this festive season. The warning issued by KwaZulu-Natal SAPS, comes after a number of women have fallen victim to con men who target employed females.
“There are criminals who target older, widowed or divorced women, pretend to be attracted to have a relationship with them. They then influence them to resign from their employment for better investment opportunities or convince them to consult a ‘traditional doctor’ who assists with multiplying cash using ‘black magic’,” said police spokesperson Col Nqobile Gwala in a statement.

Gwala said unfortunately the modus operandi used by these criminals make it hard for police to investigate.
“It is not easy to investigate cases where there has been an agreement of exchange of cash in a romantic relationship. Women are warned to be vigilant at all times and not trust anyone with their life savings,” she said.
