City appoints new orange bag supplier

THE eThekwini Municipality has assured residents that its orange bag recycling programme will get back to normal soon. Residents from around the Durban area have been complaining incessantly about the non-delivery of orange recycling bags.
In February it emerged that the awarding of the contract for R90 million to supply orange recycling bags to the City had been irregular.

But the eThekwini Municipality head of communications, Tozi Mthethwa, said a new company has been awarded the contract.

“Having noted the growing demand for orange recycling bags, the City recently awarded Verigreen a two-month contract for the supply of the recycling bags. This will help relieve the pressure in the interim. An advertisement for the supply of bags will be advertised before the expiration of the contract,” said Mthethwa.

She added that residents can expect the delivery of orange bags in the coming weeks.

“Contractors will be sent out on a citywide delivery drive. eThekwini Municipality would like to thank residents for their continued participation and partnership in this recycling programme. The City is working hard to resolve the matter and remains committed to practicing proper waste management through reducing, reusing and recycling. The municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused,” added Mthethwa.
