Suspect in Siam Lee moved to Westville prison

THE man accused of the murder of Siam Lee has been moved to Westville Prison. The 29-year-old Assagay resident is facing 16 charges brought against him by the state, including rape and is due in court next month ahead of his bail application.

The suspect, who is involved in the petrochemical industry, alleged two weeks ago that he was being tortured and harassed by Durban North SAPS officials.

He had previously made a request to be moved to Westville Prison but last week changed his mind saying he wished to be moved to Pietermaritzburg New Prison.

Magistrate Mohamed Motala said the suspect’s formal bail hearing would take place on 7 and 8 March. The state indicated it would oppose bail against the accused.

Lee,  a Durban North resident was allegedly kidnapped outside her place of work on Margaret Maytom Avenue last month. The charred remains of the local resident was found days later in a sugarcane field in New Hanover in the KZN Midlands.

Police are yet to confirm the DNA test results of the body found at the scene.

On Sunday the Clarendon Road Neighbourhood Watch honoured the memory of Lee by placing bouquet of flowers and teddy bears outside the place she was last seen.
