PROTESTERS have returned on the N2 and have blocked one lane with burning tyres in an attempt to draw attention to their plight. The protesters have again placed burning tyres across one lane of the N2 freeway going North just before the Sibaya off-ramp.

Metro Police and Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) officers are on scene and have urged motorists to drive with caution in the area.

According to uMhlanga ward councillor, Heinz de Boer, residents of the nearby Blackburn Village informal settlement are unhappy their electricity has not been restored.

“Yesterday’s protests did not get their electricity supply restored and they have returned today to disrupt traffic. I will be meeting with the residents to address their concerns later today. Metro Police are on scene and are monitoring the situation,” he said.

In October last year, the informal settlement vowed to keep protesting and blocking the freeway until the City took their problems seriously.
