Armed gang storms Somerset Park home

AN ARMED gang robbed and assaulted a Somerset Drive family on Thursday afternoon. The gang, three of whom were armed, stormed the premises just before lunchtime, confirmed Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS. One of the homeowners was assaulted in the robbery.

“The armed gang took advantage of the open gate at the premises as a company was fixing the driveway entrance after the laying of fibre optic cables. The men, were in a white golf with NJ number plates. They accosted one of the workers on site before storming into the home. The men then assaulted the wife and intimidated the husband. They demanded valuables and made off with jewellery, a TV and items from a safe.

“A tenant, believed to be the family’s son-in-law, came out of his property behind the main house to investigate the commotion and was robbed of his laptop and other items. No shots were fired in the incident and the suspects sped off in the vehicle,” he said.

The incident also comes two days after a shootout in a La Lucia home.
