PETER Rose is a man with whom I found resonance sometime around 2003/4 when I started attending community-focused meetings which addressed issues affecting what was affectionately called the Village and its community.

He had, and still has, a rather distinctive physical presence but it was the mind and demeanour of the man that made me listen to his well articulated contributions. I did not know Peter socially and my assessment was formed mainly from our interactions on the many committees on which we served and shared for many years.
I always found him affable, a cool debater who could get hot under the collar occasionally (and did!), principled, clear thinking, an adept deliberator and a man committed to all things good for the community and uMhlanga.

It was quite some time later that I became aware that this activist was also “Mr Tourism” of uMhlanga.  I don’t need to remind uMhlanga of his personal commitment to advance tourism and grow the economy of uMhlanga and far beyond.  His enthusiasm for promoting uMhlanga has always been infectious and I leave the well-deserved accolades to those who know the furrow he ploughed better than I do.

But to the Peter that I have come to know and respect ( who retires from ‘active duty’ in July 2017), I’m sure I am joined by many others in offering our heartfelt thanks for the years of dedication, commitment and inputs on behalf of tourism and community promotion. “Cometh the hour, cometh the man” and it is now time for the man to relax and tend other personal interests. Go well, good helmsman and “may the road rise up to meet you and the wind be always at your back”! God Bless.
