SATURDAY, 20 FEBRUARY

Open Strings will host Kahn Morbee (of The Parlotones) at Villa Brae, 16 Jameson Terrace, Kloof, from 6pm. After 12 years of fronting South African rock/pop band, The Parlotones, Kahn Morbee is performing as KAHN. His artistic and musical contributions on all seven of The Parlotones studio albums have received critical acclaim across the globe and his solo project is set to follow the same path. The South African Writers’ Circle will meet at the Westville Library (room G2) at 11am. The circle will be holding its AGM followed by a talk by Rob Opie entitled, ‘The Game Changers – Good to Great to Greater’. Afterwards a cocktail party will be held. Visitors welcome. The Garden and House Plant Club will meet at the Musgrave Methodist Church hall (entrance in St Thomas Road) every third Saturday of the month at 2.15pm. This weekend the AGM will be held and there will be a talk about mosses, their uses and contrasts with lichen, with David Tighe’s incredible little Penjing Gardens in mind. Birdlife Port Natal will hold its AGM at the Palmiet Nature Reserve in Westville at 2pm. Guest speaker, Mark Brown, will present a talk on ‘Cities, Beaches and Birds – Striving for Co-existence’. Take along food to share at the bring-and-braai. Contact Lesley on 083 231 3408.

The Happiness Course, a meditation programme for everyone, runs every Saturday morning at 10.30am to noon at 26 Menston Road, Westville. During this course, based on a special arrangement of meditations known as Lamrim, learn how to connect to your inner potential for peace, love and freedom and begin our journey to a happiness we hardly knew existed. Everyone is welcome, suitable for absolute beginners. R60 donation to non-profit organisation.

Go on a guided short walk (three to four hours) at Krantzkloof Nature Reserve at 8am. It is easy and suitable for the whole family. Meet at the picnic site, 152 Kloof Falls Road. No booking required.
