POLICE are investigating whether there was any foul play in the case of a body that washed up on a La Lucia beach last week. The body of Rajesh Rohit, believed to be in his 50’s, was found was washed up on the beach by residents on a morning walk. He was wearing only his underwear.

According to Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, detectives are investigating whether foul play was involved in the Phoenix resident’s death.

“The post-mortem concluded he had died by drowning. There were no marks or visible injuries to suggest he was assaulted prior to his death. However, we have to investigate every angle and we will be looking at the foul play angle. His family said he left at 9am on Sunday morning and were alarmed when they didn’t hear from him on Sunday evening. It was only the next day that he was discovered on the shore,” he said.

Deokaran urged anyone with any information to contact Detective Warrant Officer, Vicky Moodley, on 031 560 8004.
