Home Affairs offices closed this Saturday

THE Department of Home Affairs has advised residents that their offices across the country will remain closed this Saturday, 15 July. Home Affairs Minister Hlengiwe Mkhize has apologised and appealed to members of the public to be patient while the department is working on resolving the matter as quickly as possible

The department has been engaged in a protracted dispute with the Public Servants Association (PSA), the National Health Education and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) and the National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers (Nupsaw) on the issue of implementing new opening and closing hours.

The unions objected to officials working on Saturdays, which, according to them, officials would effectively be required to work for six days a week, as opposed to five days.

Negotiations are underway to resolve the impasse regarding Saturday operations at Home Affairs offices.

The department and unions have been locked in talks to find a solution to the labour dispute, which has led to the suspension of operations at Home Affairs offices countrywide on Saturdays.
