M4 crash leaves woman critical

A CAR collided with the rear-end of a stationary truck near eMdloti last night.

“At around 9pm Crisis Medical paramedics arrived at the scene on the M4 to find the car had overturned after it had collided with both the rear of the delivery truck and a man.

“The male patient and a female passenger of the car who is around 30 years-old, suffered moderate injuries from the crash. The driver of the vehicle who is a female believed to be in her 40s, however sustained serious injuries with Advanced Life Support intervention needed to stabilize her,” said Kyle van Reenen from Crisis Medical.

According to van Reeneen the truck and trailer was carrying citrus fruit when it lost part of its load along the highway. The truck was stationary on the left shoulder of the road when the car hit it from behind. The man was attending to the load at the rear of the trailer when he was also struck by it before the car overturned.

All the patients were stabilised on-scene before begin taken to hospital for further care. The M4 needed to be closed while emergency services worked to stabilise the patients and clear the scene.
