TWO local dancers are taking the Latin and ballroom world by storm. Lwazi Motha and Chloe Fynn, who only began dancing duet last year recently, finished first at the Dolphin Challenge at George Campbell School. They came first in both ballroom and Latin American dancing in the youth/adult bronze section.

This was their third competition finishing in first place in their division. Motha, a Northwood School Grade 11 learner and uMgeni Park resident said they hoped to reach new heights and continue improving.

“I started off in the Northwood musical and one of the dances involved partnership work so I decided to join ballroom dancing and I’ve not looked back. It’s a classy style of dance and I think both Chloe and I have been able to work well together because we are such good friends and we have good chemistry on the dance floor,” he said.

Both Fynn and Motha aspire to one day represent South Africa at the world champs.

Fynn, who is a Northlands Girls’ High School learner and Glenashley resident said her grandmother and her mother were massive inspirations for her.

“My grandmother used to be a dance teacher and participate in competitions. She’s always encouraged me to follow my passion. We always watched Strictly Come Dancing together and it’s great. My gran and my mom are always there for me making sure I make it to my classes and always spurring me on which is great,” she said.

The duo hopes to impress at the upcoming inter-schools dance event later this month before the Gold Cup Championships at the Hellenic Hall in June.
