CAPTAIN Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS has praised the involvement of the Durban North/Umhlanga CPF in the ongoing operations to root out vagrants from the area. This comes after the latest operation yielded a total of seven vagrants who were arrested while an eighth suspect was nabbed for being in possession of a stolen bike.

According to Deokaran, the operation focused on Swapo (Broadway) Road and Kenneth Kaunda (Northway).

“Fingerprints were taken of the men and criminal checks will be done to determine if any can be linked to crimes in the area,” he said.

Durban North resident and CPF public relations officer, Mary Knox, said one of the vagrants was found with an antique pendant around his neck.

“He claimed he found the necklace with the pendant in a bin. It had the name Luke inscribed on it. We also arrested two vagrants sleeping near a bank on Broadway. Five other vagrants were arrested under the Northway Road bridge,” she said.
